B.A.L.M.E.R.S Care Farm CIC

Blended - Alternative - Learning - Model - Exploring - Real-life - Scenario's

Balmer's was originally set up in 2022 to help young learners with additional needs through animal care and horticulture. Seeing the benefits first hand, we have grown the provision significantly to now having 34 animals in our care. In 2024, we registered Balmer's as a care farm to enable us to share these benefits with the local community.

You can find out more about our animals below.
We are able to offer enrichment activities to local schools, colleges and other alternative providers, please contact us for more information.

Finn - Lando - Chewy

These are our three little pigs, who love a scratch and cuddle. They enjoy spending time in their mud pit, playing games, eating and chilling!

If you scratch their bellies, they will roll over for you. Their favourite foods are apples and bananas.

Reggie and Rosie

Our two Pygmy goats who love to climb and play. They enjoy spending time with people and going out for walks. They love to eat brambles, grass and play on their see-saw

Slinky and Noodle

Our two little ferrets who live with one of our tutors and spend most of their time running around, play fighting and trying to escape! They love exploring the countryside on their leads and climbing.

George the Dragon

George came to us last year and is a female Bearded Dragon. She loves to spend time out of her vivarium and is often found in the office helping the admin staff. She loves locusts, meal worms and spending time outside in the sunshine.

Romeo

Romeo came to live with us temporarily several years ago and has never left. He is a cheeky little man, who's favourite activity is to destroy fences and escape (he should've been a ferret)! His super power is to evade capture and he has a love heart on his forehead. He loves to eat anything and is often on a diet!

Angel

Our resident OAP, Angel came to us a few years ago after sustaining an injury, meaning she couldn't be ridden. She is around 19 years old, likes her own company, and going for little walks in the countryside to keep her fit. She enjoys being groomed and pampered, then rolling in lots of mud!

Cobi

A 6 year old cob, she is the tallest at just over 16hh. Cobi is training to become a therapy horse, she loves people, cuddles and being groomed. She is often found with her head in the brambles and normally covered in mud. Cobi will do anything for a carrot or apple.

Queen Elizabeth and Captain Tom

These are our resident Hermann Tortoises. Both are nearly three years old, Elizabeth is the rebel and is often found climbing things she shouldn't. Tom is the sensible one and spends most of his time relaxing!

Buttercup aka Chicken

We rescued Buttercup from a small rabbit hutch where she was living with over 30 baby chickens. Shortly after arriving with us she gave birth to a small litter of rabbits. Buttercup now spends her days living in "Sylvania" village and loves a carrot. Her babies are getting older now and they will eventually all live together.

Bubble and Squeak

The newest addition to the gang are Bubble and Squeak. They are Horsfield Tortoises and spend the hotter months outside and the rest of the year they will live in individual vivarium's at the centre.

The Chickens

We have 15 chickens who live on our smallholding and love nothing more than digging up slugs and worms. They lay the best eggs which are sold from the smallholding, with the profit going back into supporting the farm.
